Property Description
Are you an equestrian or just love nature and privacy? Imagine riding right out of your 5 horse stall barn to any of the local trails! This wonderful home on 7.6 acres is dripping with rich history and character,(great for entertaining) from the original stone build to the exquisite wood addition. The oldest part of the house was built in 1740s,with subsequent additions thru the years. The original house makes up appx 1800 sq ft,and boasts deep windowsills, real plaster walls, The"new"(all reclaimed wood)addition began in 2002 and was completed in 2003, although detail work has been done on it since then-such as replacing the kitchen and adding the deck, and an addition of a bedroom in the basement with hardwood flooring. The addition consists of a poured concrete foundation supported by steel beams in the basement and radiant heat throughout, including the basement, which also contains plumbing fit out for a full bathroom and kitchenette. The logs were from a general country store and a barn from Tennessee, that were built in the 1800's. Constructed to plans by Walden Log Homes, they cut and assembled the logs at their site before bringing them to this home site. The structural beams, joists and flooring, are from a log house in Northumberland County Pa from the late 1700's. The logs were sliced and grooved for the flooring in the first floor. The red barnwood on the walls is from a barn in Center County Pa, and the ceiling is the same barnwood flipped over for a warmer feeling. The ceiling in the first floor is from the Buchanan house in Honey Brook that was being torn down and was the attic ceiling. The boards are tapered, and were flipped to fit against each other lengthwise as they orgianlly would have been laid in the original home. The railings and spindles on the stairway to the second floor were cut from the joists left over from the structural pieces bought from the 1700's Norththumberland house. All the doors in the interior are antique, culled from many sources, and the front door is actually a 2 sided door with planks on the back and cross and bible on the exterior. The front door surround was built by a local Mennonite craftsman. The second floor flooring is from a railroad barn in Ronovo, Pa that was used to store coal. All the windows and the two french doors in the back are new Marvin windows and Doors. The exterior of the garage is board and batten siding. Please also watch the video of this home.
